Water leaking in garage doors can be frustrating for many homeowners, but it can be easily solved.

If you are like me, and you spend a lot of time in your garage, you know how the little things can really cause frustration. While I can usually let some minor things go, this is not the case when it comes to water leaking under my garage doors in Baltimore, Md. While on the surface it can seem a pretty minor and petty problem, the truth of the matter is that it can be dangerous and cause damage. Water infiltrating garage doors can happen for a couple of reasons. Some of these reasons are easier to fix than others. For example, the first thing you will want to do is inspect the weather stripping on your garage doors. If the seal is worn, replace it. You can either do it yourself or hire a professional to do it for you. Another common reason for garage doors to leak is an uneven surface. As older homes settle, it is not uncommon for the garage floors to sink below the grade of the driveway. This causes water to run under your garage doors as a result. If this is your problem, you have several different options available. If your garage floor has sunk lower than your driveway, and water is leaking under your garage doors, consider one of the following solutions:

  • Install a threshold for your garage doors: This is a rubber “dam” that is glued to the concrete to stop water from entering your garage.
  • Create a positive slope: Grind the edge of your garage floor to slope outward to prevent water infiltration
  • Install a drain in your garage
  • Replace your garage floor

If you are uncomfortable performing any of these solutions, contact the garage door specialists at Universal Garage Doors Baltimore- they install and repair garage doors in Maryland and the Greater Baltimore Metro area.
